City of Hope Jumps to 7th on U.S. News & World Report List of “Best Hospitals” for Cancer

Ranking recognizes City of Hope’s commitment to outstanding care and service to patients

City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States, was recognized as the seventh “Best Hospital” for cancer in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-23 Best Hospitals: Specialty Ranking. This marks the first time the cancer treatment center has cracked the top 10 of the U.S. News & World Report annual rankings and the 16th consecutive year it has been distinguished as one of the nation’s elite cancer hospitals.

“City of Hope is honored to be recognized by U.S. News & World Report for the quality, innovation and care demonstrated by our extraordinary physicians, nurses, researchers and health care workers," said Robert Stone, City of Hope president, CEO and the Helen and Morgan Chu Chief Executive Officer Distinguished Chair. “While we’re proud of this achievement, we also are gratified by our increasing ability to connect more people to the wondrous era of cancer care innovation taking place today. This recognition furthers our resolve to create a system that makes leading-edge research, treatment and care more accessible to more patients, families and communities across the country.”

City of Hope’s high placement on the U.S. News & World Report list of “Best Hospitals” for cancer was aided by several factors, including high reputation scores, patient volume metrics and the overall quality of its nurses. As part of the rankings, City of Hope was also rated as “high performing” in lung cancer surgery, colon cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery and ovarian cancer surgery. Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), a part of City of Hope, was also recognized by the U.S. News & World Report rankings, with CTCA Atlanta rated “high performing” for lung cancer surgery and prostate cancer surgery, and CTCA Chicago rated “high performing” for lung cancer surgery, prostate cancer surgery and ovarian cancer surgery.

The cancer hospital ranking is compiled based on data from 914 eligible cancer hospitals nationwide; U.S. News & World Report’s rankings cover 15 specialty areas in total. A cancer hospital’s overall score reflects performance in such areas as structure, designation as a National Cancer Institute comprehensive cancer center, expert opinion and survival.

Today’s recognition is the latest milestone in City of Hope’s transformation into a national cancer research and treatment system. In recent years, City of Hope has grown substantially with the expansion of its clinical network in Southern California, addition of genomics leader Translational Genomics Research Institute, launch of its employer cancer care benefits offering AccessHopeTM, acquisition of Cancer Treatment Centers of America and an advanced cancer center in Orange County, California, opening this summer.

City of Hope’s system of provider and research entities serves approximately 115,000 patients each year, with more than 11,000 team members, 575 physicians, and more than 1,000 scientists and researchers across a network of locations in California, Arizona, Illinois and Georgia.

Complete lists of U.S. News’ “Best Hospitals” by specialties and their rating data are available online beginning July 26 at 12:01 a.m. EDT.
