To get his bag company off the ground, Munson and his black lab, Blue, slept on the floor in a $100/mo. apartment in the most dangerous city in the world, ran from a Mexican federale sent to kill him and even fought in a Mexican bull fight.
Saddleback Leather has now consistently been designing and selling quality leather bags for the last 20 years. The company's mission of quality and craftsmanship continues to attract the attention of customers and create exciting partnerships. Toyota was so impressed that they asked Dave to collaborate with them on a special leather interior for the new 1794 Special Edition Tundra. Recently, Saddleback Leather was honored to be included in Rolls Royce’s coffee table book “Strive for Perfection” because of Saddleback’s love for excellent quality and stunning design.
Saddleback Leather calls themselves a “people business cleverly disguised as a leather bag company”. Munson and his wife, Suzette’s personal mission to love others and make a difference has been at the heart of how they do business and taken them around the world. Munson and his family have been to Africa over two dozen times for a total of about 1.5 years living there. They have a few dozen unofficially adopted sons and daughters in Rwanda and Uganda who call Dave and Suzette, “Mom” and “Dad”. The Munsons have guided over 300 people, including customers, to sponsor and visit their sponsored kids in Africa.
The Saddleback Leather Factory is located in Leon, Guanajuato, the leather capital of North America. They offer Marriage, Parenting, and Financial classes for employees. The Munsons also opened a school near the factory for kids of the employees and neighbors where they get a high school diploma from the U.S. when they graduate. Saddleback Leather is on a mission to raise the bar on quality and to change the way business is done and thought about.
