Veteran Advocates at Legal Help For Veterans, PLLC Support U.S. Military’s $130.1 Billion Tech Reinforcement Plan

Northville, Michigan – Over the next few years, the U.S. Department of Defense plans to spend approximately $130.1 billion on research and development. The world is rapidly changing and the U.S. is facing a different kind of adversary that inhabits the cyberworld and launches attacks on the nation.

The main focus over the next three years is to embrace advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and, cyberspace. It is critical for the safety of the nation that the U.S. has the leading edge in any type of cyber or technological conflict.

According to the Department of Defense (DoD), one of the main goals is to focus sharply on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. It is predicted that the demand for military robots could reach $24.2 billion by 2025. That is a significant increase in spending compared to the $7.5 billion spent in 2021.

”Interestingly, robotic dogs are being used at Tyndall Air Force Base,” said Jim Fausone at Legal Help For Veterans, PLLC, a nationwide VA Disability law firm assisting veterans and their family members in all federal VA benefit matters. “This shows how dramatically times have changed and how the military is keeping up with those changes to protect the nation.”

The dogs patrol the grounds, can climb stairs, pick themselves up if they fall, stay alert 24/7, see the landscape from all angles, and instantly process information. The main question in deploying them is whether or not to arm them, turning them into lethal autonomous weapons.

Advanced hypersonic military systems are being tested and launched experimentally. Their strategic advantage is their excellent maneuvering in flight and the ability to fly at low altitudes, making them virtually impossible to track. The US has several of these types of weapons in development. A successful missile launch happened in March 2022.

Private companies in the U.S. are in the process of developing a remotely controlled plane capable of traveling at hypersonic speed. These new developments would have a significant impact on the United States’ military readiness.

Another critical area of military readiness is cyber-warfare. Cybersecurity is now a matter of national security. Today, the world is not what it used to be and many hostile foreign nations have launched cyberattacks against critical infrastructures, such as water plants, electrical grids, and communications systems. The Marine Corps recently announced four new positions focusing on cyber security to assist in combating cyber terrorism.

Another rapidly developing field within the technology sector is 3-D printing, also referred to as additive manufacturing. The military began experimenting with it in January 2021. Their goal is to employ it in printing new forms of munitions and to create a military truck outer shell in one large piece.

“The future for the military is rapidly changing, as are the types of roles members may perform. That said, all warfare takes its toll on those that serve to protect our nation,” stated Fausone.
