2022 Cross-Strait Dragon Boat Race kicks off in Jimei, Xiamen, China

The 2022 Cross-Strait Dragon Boat Race, themed “Dragon Rising and Tiger Leaping,” began on June 2 in Jimei District, Xiamen, China. The Dragon Boat Pool hosted the preliminaries, semi-finals, and finals of the 300-meter straight race. Thousands of players from both sides of the strait join forces to ride the wind and waves, get out on the sea, and demonstrate their speed and passion.

More than 1,000 players from 41 teams from both sides of the Taiwan Strait rode the wind and waves together and fought against the water, including 24 teams from mainland China and 17 teams from Taiwan compatriots.

A multitude of cultural activities will be held during the 2022 Cross-Strait Dragon Boat Race, dubbed “Dragon Soaring Tiger Leaping.” There’s also the 18th Cross-Strait Dragon Boat Festival Cultural Forum, the 17th Jimei (Dragon Boat Festival) Poetry Festival, and traditional cross-strait traditions, in addition to the exciting and fierce dragon boat racing. A series of cultural activities with a strong traditional flavor were also staged one after the other, including the sacrificial ceremony, the “Our Festival Dragon Boat Festival,” the dragon boat battle array on both sides of the strait, the interaction of ancient rituals and the Dragon Boat Festival, and a special performance of southern Fujian folk art.

The Dragon Boat Festival is often referred to as the Dragon Boat Festival. Dragon boat racing is not only a Chinese national Activity honoring the sages’ memory, but also a vital link between the blood and kindred of countrymen on both sides of the strait, carrying the common cultural memory of both sides of the strait. The competition aims to promote the integrated development of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, as well as to promote Chinese dragon boat culture to young people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait in an entertaining manner and to boost cultural self-confidence, according to the relevant person in charge of the organizer.
