Local film wows Creston moviegoers

Oct. 14 – TheNewswire - Creston turned out in droves for three nights running this past weekend to take in The Orchard — a new feature film that was shot entirely in the Creston Valley, using local actors

Producer Mark Wolfe said the premiere of the film, that was fully 4 years in the making, was the culmination of talent, hard work and determination.

“We’ve had larger positive response to the film, which we were delighted to have completed after years of pandemic and forest fire interruptions,” said Wolfe. “not that we didn’t have our critics.”

He added that several notable figures from the Creston community boycotted the film – including Creston’s local newspaper, The Creston Valley Advance.

“As a psychological horror fil, it was not going to be for everybody, of course,” said Wolfe.  “As for those hop[ing the film would be a disaster, Wolfe said that was “just too fucking bad.”

The Orchard depicts the story of a young man returning to Creston to take over an orchard inherited from his sketchy grandfather.  After a pruning accident puts him on heavy-duty painkillers, he spirals back into a drug abuse problem he’d recovered from, leading to some pretty nasty shit.

Lucas Szuch, the film’s star and son—in-law of Wolfe and writer/director Kerry M<cArthur was glad the film was finished, adding: “I would have killed someone eventually, if we hadn’t wrapped up shooting this summer.”

The film is heading into theatres in nelson and Kimberley in the coming months, and will make the festival circuit in 2023.
