CVRD Concludes Sale of Fazenda Brasileiro Gold Mine
Rio de Janeiro, August 15, 2003 Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) informs that it concluded today the sale of the assets of Fazenda Brasileiro gold mine to Yamana Resources Inc. (Yamana), a Canadian mining company for US$ 20.9 million, as publicly announced on June 18, 2003.
With the sale of Fazenda Brasileiro, CVRD discontinues gold production. However, the Company continues to invest in mineral exploration aiming at the discovery of new gold reserves and, furthermore, all CVRD copper projects, except 118, will produce gold as a by-product.
