This week there were a couple announcements related to our proposed merger with US Airways. First we announced that we will need to free up flight numbers to accommodate adding US Airways mainline and regional affiliate flights to our global network upon completion of the merger. As you might imagine there arent enough numbers to accommodate both schedules. As a result, there will be changes to some American and American Eagle flight numbers. The process will occur in phases through the coming months, with changes to mainline flights expected in August. The first flight number changes will apply to all flights operated by American Eagle and ExpressJet and will be visible in Americans reservation system on Sunday, May 5. While this likely will not affect your work environment, you may notice that flight numbers that weve had in our system for some time between cities, and that youre familiar with, may change. As I mentioned last week, a lot of work is being done to ensure a smooth transition to our merger with US Airways. This past Monday, Tom Horton and Doug Parker issued a joint letter to all employees describing in more detail the planning that is occurring in both D/FW and Tempe. In the letter, Tom and Doug reiterate the importance of putting together a strong leadership team and its expected that they will announce Dougs direct reports in late May or early July. You should have received the letter from Tom and Doug in your @aa.com email boxes, but I have also linked it here for your convenience.
