Sirius XM and The Ruckus Comedy proudly presents The Legendary Series, featuring the iconic Paul Mooney and Luenell in their own specials. Each 60-minute installment chronicles the life and career of two of the funniest and most outrageous comedians to rise to stardom. Both of these comedians are known for their unique style of comedy; they pushed the boundaries of the industry, with no fear of being offensive or upsetting the crowd. They said the things that people were scared to say, and their fans love them for that.
The late, great Paul Mooney passed in 2021, but his legacy lives on. Often referred to as the “Godfather of Black Comedy”, his work continues to stand the test of time, and he remains a favorite in the hearts of millions. His one-hour special documents his career throughout the decades like never before. Fans get to hear from some of the people that knew him best and worked alongside him. The show will also mention how Mooney got his start as a writer for popular TV shows like Sanford And Son and Good Times, and was a writer for Richard Pryor. After tasting success, he began his own career in stand-up and even dabbled in acting - finally becoming the superstar we know and love today.
Luenell is a popular actress, comedian and writer whose career started through a unique and hilarious journey with her roommate and one of her late night phone clients. After her comedic career skyrocketed, she began landing huge movie roles that really put her name on the map. One opportunity after another, she began appearing alongside greats such as Katt Williams, Eddie Griffin and Dave Chappelle. It’s safe to say she has earned her stripes and can stand tall as an iconic woman of comedy.
These fascinating specials were written and produced by Ruckus Comedy. The comedy label is spearheaded by CEO and Founder Barrett Dungy, who has been an advocate for African-American comedians for over two decades. He has given first distribution opportunities to Lil Rel, Kevin Hart, Tyler Perry, and many more.
