Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Finest Honored at Annual Gala

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation hosted its 9th annual “Sheriff Salutes the Best of the Badge” Gala Friday night at the Wynn Hotel. Each year at the event, the LVMPD honors its officers for distinguishing themselves in the line of duty. These brave men and women are dedicated to saving lives while risking their own, and their dramatic and harrowing stories earn the top officers a commendation. Among these are: the Medal of Valor, the Unit Medal of Valor, the Preservation of Life Award, the Medal of Honor, and the Purple Heart Award.

Sheriff Joe Lombardo presented the medals to each of the honorees and acknowledged their heroism. “Every day, our officers put on the uniform not knowing what dangers they will face,” said Lombardo. “Every single LVMPD officer is a hero in my book.” The event was a special one for the Sheriff, as it will be his final Gala as leader of the Department.

Funds raised from the Best of the Badge Gala directly support community safety programs and advanced officer training, and help to procure essential crime-fighting equipment and technology. The investments in these programs and equipment make a positive impact every day in southern Nevada and within the LVMPD family. Event sponsors included corporate interests such as Wynn Las Vegas, Caesars Entertainment, MGM Resorts International, Motorola Solutions, and the Las Vegas Raiders Football Team, as well as smaller local businesses.

Las Vegas entrepreneur Antonio Accornero continued his ongoing support of the LVMPD at the event and explained, “It’s important to recognize the selfless and dedicated officers who make sacrifices every day to protect and serve our community.” Contributions from civic-minded business leaders like Accornero enable the LVMPD Foundation and officers to better protect our communities and reduce crime across Clark County.

Accornero’s generous contributions over the years have helped to fund many initiatives, such as community engagement and public safety programs. As a staunch proponent of making the city of Las Vegas safer for everyone, Mr. Accornero is committed to continuing his support of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
