New Citizen's Guide Exposes Threats to Canadian Democracy

Frontier Centre for Public Policy

Prominent Canadians Launch Citizen’s Guide to Defend Democracy

December 9, 2024 – TheNewswire - A group of eminent Canadians has created a free guide to help Canadians and recent immigrants understand how Canadian democracy works  –  and sometimes doesn't.

Among the distinguished contributors to ‘A Citizen’s Guide to Canadian Politics’ are:

  • Derek Fildebrandt – Publisher of the Western Standard

  • Tom Flanagan – professor and author of the best-selling expose of indigenous politics, Grave Error

  • Tony Clement – former Conservative cabinet minister

  • Catherine Swift – President of the Coalition of Concerned Manufacturers and Businesses of Canada

  • Sze-Fung Lee – specialist researcher in Chinese warfare

  • John Hilton-O'Brien – Executive Director of Parents for Choice in Education

  • Lawyer Stephen Woodworth – Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms

  • Gwendolyn Landolt – REAL Women of Canada

  • Shannon Boschy – parents' rights activist

'A Citizen's Guide to Canadian Politics' is meant to increase political literacy and motivate Canadians to become more politically involved. It is a primer on the design of Canada’s political system. However, it also explains the genesis of disturbing trends that now threaten the health of the entire system and the freedoms of all Canadians.

For example, the Guide provides a comprehensive overview of:

  • Judicial activism

  • Advocacy run wild

  • The failure of the legacy media to hold government accountable

  • The systematic and intentional suppression of free expression

  • The hijacking of education to achieve political outcomes

  • Foreign interference in Canadian elections

The Guide offers solutions, to defend democratic values and hold our institutions to account.

The Guide has been prepared by the Winnipeg-based Frontier Centre for Public Policy. To ensure accuracy and impartiality, every chapter was drafted by one or two experts, then peer-reviewed by other experts. Well-footnoted, every chapter includes recommendations for further study.

The authors further hope that Canadians will be inspired to put what they learn into action, proposing new initiatives, such as political training courses, the creation of new political movements and, above all, more individual involvement in Canada’s political processes.

This comprehensive resource can be used by individuals. But it should also be required reading for political parties and riding associations, institutions of learning and indeed any group or organization dedicated to defending Canadian freedoms.
