Dresden – The City Which Was Burnt To Ashes

Elaine Blair has penned extensive depth on the Dresden attacks in her book 'Escape'. The city's stunning Baroque architecture and rich cultural heritage have earned it the nickname "the Florence on the Elbe." On February 13, 1945, British and American bombers attacked this unprepared city, setting off three waves of fire that lasted for 24 hours. It seemed as though Dresden was on fire from hell. First, the rooftops of the old town were ablaze. The Gestapo outside of Dresden, who were attempting to apprehend the Jews escaping the burning city, was the second horror.

Silesia-born Germans made an effort to escape the Russian Red Army. Many people in Dresden seemed worried about this. Everyone was alarmed and discussed the possibility of Russians attacking Dresden. However, most Dresden people believed that because their city was so stunning, historical, and essential to culture, it would never be attacked or bombed. Hitler viewed Dresden as a gem in the German empire. Little was done regarding security measures because even Dresden's officials thought the city was secure.

The trip to the city of Dresden in the fall of 2019 was the point where Elaine got her inspiration to write her book about the city of Dresden. This book's inspiration came from that. But, first, I wanted to tell you about the history of this lovely city's destruction and subsequent reconstruction. Dresden is comparable to a Phoenix in architecture that has perished and is rising from the ashes.

Historical fiction appeals to Elaine. She enjoys researching and learning about various societies, historical figures, and cultures. Her visit to Dresden, with its beautiful, regal, and steeped in Saxony historical buildings, was nevertheless enjoyable. The most unexpected feature was that these buildings weren't the originals and had been renovated since 1945.

Elaine Blair described it so well for her reader about the background of this beautiful city's destruction and restoration in her book 'Escape'.
